Sewing for the New Year 2015

Last year I made a resolution not to purchase any clothing (with the exception of underwear and jeans) in an attempt to protest the fast fashion movement and the deplorable conditions in which most of our clothing is made. I must say that I did pretty good, for me. I made it until the end of July. Darn you JJill for opening a store in my area! I guess I have a weakness.  But, a new year allows one to begin again. Right? So, I downloaded the book “Over Dressed The Shockingly High Cost of Cheap Fashion” by Elizabeth L. Cline. And have begun anew with my resolution to not contribute to the madness. (disclosure-I am not affiliated with Amazon or anyone else. I just like the book)

My oldest daughter loved the Christmas apron that I gave her (picture? Um, I knew I forgot something) and requested two more for everyday wear. She then suggested that it be two sided. So, I made it 2-sided. And took pictures!

She Loves it!

Well, I had a bit of fun purchasing fabric online during the end-of-year-clearance and got right to work sewing up a couple of 3/4 length sleeve hack of Cake Patterns No 2224 The Tee. Love this pattern! I have made a few of these and I love the longer sleeve option for the colder winter months. I absolutely love making my own clothes so I can create a sleeve length that I am comfortable with (I can’t stand long sleeves) and I can adjust the length of my hems to a length that I want. Which I did here as I wanted a bit more coverage to cover some holiday pounds – yep, another New Year’s resolution, sigh.

This one is made of Bamboo. So soft and warm.

And this is a Thermal Stripe. Also warm and comfy.

Another resolution for the new year is to improve my photography. And therefore improve on my blogging. As you can see by the above photos, I still need improvements in my selfies. A lot of improvements. I also just have to get over myself.

But, I hope that I can redeem myself with these shots of my blooming orchid. I have had this orchid for several years now and it blooms like this every winter. It is my strength to help me through the cold. Did I ever mention how much I had the cold?

More sewing post coming soon. How are your New Year’s Resolutions coming along? I’d love to hear them and how you are sticking (or not) to them. And I would love to see any sewing that you’ve done. Or crafting of any type.
