I usually hate to make New Years Resolutions. I somehow feel like it’s just a way to set myself up for failure. How many diets/exercise plans/starts/stops, whatever have I declared as ‘this time I will…’ and well, you know how that turns out.
But, this year I thought why not concentrate on something I will truly enjoy. Something that I can even keep track of and even … hmmmm… blog about. Okay, sewing! Crafting! Knitting! Photos! So, I got busy.
I have a confession. I have been accused of being the cobbler who made shoes for the whole village while his own children went barefoot. Guilty as charged. I had black out curtains hanging in my bedroom for years. Store bought, unadorned. Just a simple valance and, get this, clothes pins (yes, clothes pins) to tie them opened during the day. No, I did not take a picture of them to share. I am sure you can use your own imaginations to visualize that. I finally spotted a style of roman shades that I liked. With that in mind, I quickly found a fabric and now I have relaxed roman shades finished and hanging in my bedroom. I still may add a valance. I haven’t quite decided as of yet.
Then, I made two Blank Canvas T-shirts (from http://3hourspast.com/). The first was made from a loosely woven knit and I wasn’t happy with the neck. I finished it by cutting a slit and turning it inward. I like it better that way and I really only intended it to be a muslin to wear around the house.
The second is a heavier double-knit and I like the way it turned out much better. I just need to learn to take better pictures of myself (all in good time).
Then I made some business cards. I made 20 of these to begin with. I have really enjoyed handing these out to people. They really are cute. I saw several varieties online. I have already changed them for the next batch to include my email address and to add an “&” because one person read it out loud as ‘custom sewing lessons’. It now reads ‘custom sewing & lessons’.
I have started a rather long list of projects to work on. In fact, I add to it quite often. So I guess I am feeling encouraged with my resolutions this year. At least with this one. How about you? How are your new year’s resolutions going?
